Ressourcen für politische Entscheidungsträger zum Sortenschutz

Die Einführung eines Sortenschutzsystems ist ein entscheidender Schritt für jedes Land, das landwirtschaftliche Innovationen fördern, die Ernährungssicherheit und Ernährung verbessern sowie das Wirtschaftswachstum vorantreiben möchte. Ein gut funktionierendes Sortenschutzsystem bietet Pflanzenzüchtern rechtlichen Schutz, indem es ihnen ausschließliche Rechte an ihren neuen Pflanzensorten gewährt.

Dieser Anreiz fördert Investitionen in Forschung und Entwicklung und führt zur Züchtung verbesserter Sorten, die den Bedürfnissen und Erwartungen der Landwirte besser entsprechen. Dies kommt wiederum dem gesamten Agrarsektor zugute, verbessert die Lebensgrundlagen und stärkt die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit des Landes auf regionalen und globalen Märkten.

Einer der Schlüsselbereiche, denen ich in meiner Arbeit Priorität eingeräumt habe, ist das geistige Eigentum, mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf UPOV-bezogenen Themen. Diese UPOV-Tagungen bieten den Mitgliedern – darunter auch Ghana, eines der jüngsten UPOV-Mitglieder – eine wertvolle Plattform für den Austausch von Erfahrungen und Fachwissen. Das übergeordnete Ziel besteht darin, einen soliden Schutz für neue Pflanzensorten zu gewährleisten, Züchtern ausschließliche Rechte zu gewähren und gleichzeitig Innovationsanreize sowie die Forschung zu fördern.
