UPOV Opens Access to International Certification on Plant Variety Protection for Private Sector Experts

#

Private sector professionals working in plant variety protection can now earn internationally recognized credentials through a new certification program launched by the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).

The UPOV PVP Certificate launched in April 2024 provides formal recognition of expertise in the UPOV system, helping professionals validate their knowledge, stay current with international standards and best practices, and strengthen their competitiveness for specialized roles within the seed and plant breeding value chains.

The certification responds to growing demand for a credible benchmark that reflects mastery of international PVP standards and best practices. Certificate holders will demonstrate a level of expertise that strengthens their professional standing, supports career advancement, and contributes to the quality and consistency of plant variety protection practice worldwide.

"Plant variety protection is only as strong as the people who implement it. The UPOV PVP Certificate sets a new international benchmark for professional expertise in our field, giving plant breeders, lawyers, agents, the recognition they deserve and the tools to remain at the forefront of a rapidly evolving sector." - Yolanda Huerta, Vice Secretary-General, UPOV

The UPOV PVP Certificate is open to private sector professionals across all regions who wish to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in plant variety protection.
