The PVP Office requires a printed copy of the application data submitted in paper format, with all the required attachments as indicated in UPOV PRISMA, since it is required to have the documentation duly legalized and translated.
An e-mail of acknowledgement of receipt of the application is sent to the applicant when the electronic version is received via UPOV PRISMA.
The type of plant material depends on the species, according to UPOV guidelines.
For agricultural species:
The DUS examination of agricultural and vegetable species is carried out at the testing stations of the Office of Plant Variety Protection (OPV). The material must be delivered to the Office of Plant Variety Protection in Santiago (see above) along with the printed application. The exception is for potatoes, whose representative sample must be delivered to the SAG Testing Station located in Osorno.
For fruits, forestry and ornamentals:
The DUS examination of forest and fruit trees, vines, and ornamental plants is carried out on the applicant's land. Only one map needs to be submitted, along with a map showing the location of the representative samples of the variety.
National fees must be paid when submitting the application on paper format, at the Agricultural and Livestock Service.
A copy of the invoice will be given to the applicant's representative in Chile.
According to the provisions of the national legislation, it is necessary to have an agent in the country, for non-residents.
The filing date of the application is when the paper application is filed in the PVP Office.

Applications may be submitted together with the registration application, at any time (see the previous section "Plant material").
